ArtiPlus combines OPHTEC’s CTF technology with its trusted Artiflex platform to provide a unique solution for the presbyopic population

From the beginning, OPHTEC has been guided by the principle of providing innovation that lasts. It was because of this principle that Jan Worst, OPHTEC’s founder, introduced the world to the Artilens family – the first successful iris fixated IOLs. Over the following decades, OPHTEC have continued to improve quality of vision, providing patients with a truly ground-breaking platform that is trusted to deliver end results that push increasingly close to natural vision. ArtiPlus, the newest member of the Artilens family, strides further down this path, delivering to the market a much-needed presbyopia correcting solution that retains the integrity of the ocular anatomy as much as possible and eliminating the need for glasses and contact lenses.

ArtiPlus was specifically developed to tackle the rising presbyopic population – and although the primary aim was to correct presbyopia within a younger patient group (those between 40 and 60 years of age), the new lens also provides an upgrade path for cataract patients over the age of 60 who have already received monofocal cataract surgery. The incorporation of the patented Continuous Transitional Focus (CTF) technology from the PRECIZON IOLs into the Artiflex platform, offers these patient groups a better visual experience with smooth transitions between near and far as well as excellent intermediate vision. Importantly, these benefits come with almost no halos or glare thanks to the multisegmented optic, which generates a wide range of foci.

ArtiPlus incorporates a number of other different technologies into its design, resulting in a unique solution that, unlike other surgical options, can be implanted in a reversible procedure that does not require the removal of the natural lens or touch/modify the cornea. Additionally, as a result of its physical characteristics, ArtiPlus has no-post op rotation – and it is far from both the natural lens and the endothelium.

In short, when combining all these features, ArtiPlus represents the ideal lens for correcting presbyopic eyes. Indeed, patient data has showcased incredibly high satisfaction levels that mirror the increased quality of vision experienced directly after surgery (1); not for nothing has the marked impact on patients been dubbed the “Wow Effect!”

The launch of ArtiPlus is set for the beginning of 2023 in South Korea, and OPHTEC is excited about introducing the world to the newest member of the Artilens family – another innovation that is sure to last.
